>>KRANKENHAUSFUNK and the extrinsic death receptor pathway<<

is

1. a re-imagining of hospital radio, broadcast through reclaimed, repurposed, and rewired chemotherapy infusion pumps

2. a self-reflexive interpretation of the artist’s personal experience of cancer treatment

3. a transduction of bioelectrical signals from taxus baccata (the yew tree) used in the chemotherapy agent, Docetaxel

4. an invitation to encounter a localised radiophonic space derived from extraordinary and extreme experience. It is both hopeful and confronting. Mantras, musical gifts, and the sounds of machines delivering chemotherapeutic solutions, drop by drop, are blended in processes of sonic cell apoptosis.

“Illness is the night-side of life, a more onerous citizenship. Everyone who is born holds dual citizenship, in the kingdom of the well and in the kingdom of the sick. Although we all prefer to use only the good passport, sooner or later each of us is obliged, at least for a spell, to identify ourselves as citizens of that other place.”

Susan Sontag, Illness as Metaphor, 1977
