Anuvāram Jugalbandī

(for the time beings)

New improvised, indeterminate, and composed work for piano and miniature mridangam exploring experiences of time during illness. This work draws on Lisa Baraitser’s “Enduring Time” and psychotherapist Michael Balint’s spectrum of ocnophilia and philobatism to express rhythms of suspension, disruption, and repetition.

Premiered at Cafe OTO, London on April 19th 2023

“Instead of the old line of forward time, now something like a globe holds you. You live inside a great circle with no rim”

Denise Riley, Time Lived, Without Its Flow, 2012

“It entails bearing the intensity of time that is 'anachromistic', time that is 'grey', that has shade or intensity rather than hue”
